Three years on, the useful question is not whether the deal exists.
It is whether the deal has become a working corridor for the products a UK manufacturer can actually sell.
What changed
The UK-Australia FTA is live and the UK is now using CPTPP across ratified members. GOV.UK monitoring work gives exporters more evidence on how early trade agreements are performing, while country-specific guidance clarifies rules-of-origin mechanics in CPTPP markets.
The corridor test
A trade agreement creates a legal route. A trade corridor needs customer demand, regulatory usability, shipment reliability, service support, origin compliance and evidence that exporters can turn preference into sales.
Use a scorecard
Score demand, tariff preference, origin complexity, conformity and standards friction, route resilience, customer access and aftersales ability. A good corridor is not the lowest tariff. It is the best combined route from product to paid order.
The worked example
Australia may be attractive for some technical products because language, legal familiarity and trade architecture reduce friction. CPTPP may improve additional routes. But each product still needs the corridor test.
Boundary. This is a commercial framework, not customs, tax, legal or financial advice. A company-specific position needs current official guidance, product codes, supplier evidence, customer terms and specialist review.
